Government apologises for "False" Contaminated Blood Scandal report

19th December 2017 – Government apologises to Baroness Featherstone for false report into Contaminated Blood Scandal

We welcome the BBC report today that Senior Government Officials have apologised to Baroness Lynne Featherstone, not only for an inaccurate report into Factor Products in 2006 but also for its continued use, even after the initial apology.

The report in question is The Department of Health’s 2006 “Self-Sufficiency Report” which sought to explain why some of the UK relied so heavily on imported Factor products in the 1970’s and 1980’s which infected many people with Hepatitis C, some of whom were additionally infected with HIV.

The original report can be found at the following link:

False Report into Contaminated Blood Scandal

The report has been widely branded by the Haemophilia community since its inception as false.

Sir Chris Wormald’s apology to Lynne Featherstone for both the initial report and its subsequent use after it was accepted by the Department of Health as “inaccurate” is welcome.

We at Factor 8 Campaign UK would like to applaud both Lynne Featherstone and Lynne Kelly of Haemophilia Wales for their efforts in pursuing this matter.
