WATCH: Steven Snowden QC opening statement to the Infected Blood Inquiry
On the 1 year anniversary of his successful day in court at the Contaminated Blood Products Group Litigation application hearing, Steven Snowden QC (Instructed by Collins Solicitors) delivered an opening statement to the Infected Blood Inquiry on behalf of almost 700 individual Core Participants and the Factor 8 organisation.
Snowden touched on many aspects of the Contaminated Blood Scandal in his opening address which lasted approximately one hour. His statement not only challenged the “narrative of necessity” as he termed it, when speaking about the usage of Factor Concentrate products in the 1970’s and 1980’s but also challenged Public Bodies participating in the Inquiry to adopt the principals of the Hillsborough Charter.
Adopting these principals on the day were both NHS Blood & Transplant and also the Velindre Trust / Welsh Blood Service. Factor 8 welcomes the adoption of these principals by the two mentioned bodies and hopes that other Public Bodies and also Pharmaceutical Companies who may become core participants of the Inquiry in due course will also agree to adopt these principals.
