PUBLISHED: Factor VIII Batch Numbers which are vCJD implicated

As many of you will know, or have recently become aware, historically some batches of Factor VIII were considered to be “vCJD implicated”. We have recently obtained a list of such Batch Numbers directly from Public Health England.

This was because whilst Haemophilia patients who were were alive in the early 2000’s were advised of this potential. Current information suggests that at least some (potentially all of) the families of those who had already died before that exercise took place were not notified and/or given the option to know.

Privately, using this list, some members of Factor 8 whose family members died of HIV / Hep C before the vCJD notification exercise, have been able to determine that their family member did indeed receive one of these batches of Factor VIII before their death and have never been notified of this by public authorities.

THIS INFORMATION WAS RELEASED VIA FREEDOM OF INFORMATION TO FACTOR 8 FROM PUBLIC HEALTH ENGLAND AND IS NOW PUBLICLY AVAILABLE AND IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN. WHILST WE ARE SHARING THIS INFORMATION, WE DO NOT ADVOCATE IT’S USE IN ANY PARTICULAR WAY.
