Minister's U-Turn on Factor 8 Scandal defense

The attached document compares two separate statements given by different Ministers (MP Jeremy Hunt / Lord O'Shaughnessy) when questioned on the issue of delayed Heat Treatment of Factor VIII in the 1980's. Though neither of the Ministers responses properly address the original questions raised, there are some extremely interesting differences and removals of certain pieces of information.

  • The parts in red are pieces of information that were in Jeremy Hunts letter of 17/12/2016 but were removed from Lord O'Shaughnessy's letter dated 16/01/2017.
  • The parts in yellow are pieces of information that were not in Jeremy Hunts letter of 17/12/2016 but were added to Lord O'Shaughnessy's letter dated 16/01/2017.

In addition perhaps the biggest reversal on the "line to take" comes from a further letter which was received from Lord O'Shaughnessy on 14/02/2017.

The original letter from Jeremy Hunt stated categorically that "there were no tests available to screen blood"... but when confronted with This Document created by the Factor 8 Campaign we can see that less than 2 months later the Department of Health had changed this line to "tests were available to screen the blood". A shocking reversal and clear evidence that the Department of Health either does not know or is attempting to hide the facts. An Inquiry is clearly needed.
