During BBC Breakfast News on 10th May 2017 at 8:18am during your coverage on the Contaminated Blood Scandal, your Health Editor (Hugh Pym) stated that “The Department of Health has always said there has been no cover-up, no documents destroyed” and the BBC broadcast this statement and presented it to viewers as fact.
However this is entirely inaccurate and not true. In fact, the Department of Health has stated themselves on numerous occasions that documents have been destroyed. Given the circumstances and that it appears the BBC has misled viewers, We feel that it would only be correct for a public retraction and clarification on the matter.
Please find links below to just some of the times the Department has stated categorically that documents have been destroyed.
