House of Lords - Infected Blood Compensation Vote

Dear Members of the House of Lords,

On Tuesday 30th April, the House of Lords will consider the Infected Blood Compensation Clause of the Victims & Prisoners Bill. We are expecting this part of the bill to be reached approx 7:30pm - 8:30pm. This timing is not ideal and therefore we are making our strongest possible appeal that you please be in the chamber if you can.

We please ask you to support Baroness Brinton's amendment 119HA, which will be put to vote. This is the key amendment and will ensure that the compensation scheme, for those impacted by HIV & Hepatitis C-infected blood products, provides redress on terms consistent with what Sir Brian Langstaff, chair of the Infected Blood Inquiry, recommended in his final compensation recommendations. It cannot be right for past benefits payments to be taken into account or for compensation to be of a derisory value which does not deliver justice. A compensation scheme which does not deliver adequate compensation shall be meaningless. That is why this amendment is crucial.

We also support the following amendments, which all accord with the Inquiry's recommendations and which may also be taken to a vote:

119CA, 119D, 119E, 119J, 119K, 119M, 119MA★, 119P, 119PA★, 119T, 119U, 119V, 119X, 119Y, 121B, 121C, 121D.

We are incredibly grateful to Baroness Brinton, Lord Waldegrave, Baroness Meacher, Baroness Finlay, Lord Horam, Baroness Featherstone, Baroness Hooper, Baroness Campbell of Surbiton, Lord Bichard, Lord Owen and the many Peers who have supported the will of the Inquiry chairman Sir Brian Langstaff.

We please ask that you attend on Tuesday to vote for justice as the Inquiry recommended. Below, we have provided links to recent media coverage:
